The Greyhound sudden closure in August 2007 set
Sydenham alight and was itself set light to on Christmas Eve

here». The developers wanted to demolish the pub and build a
substantial block of flats on the site and car park. The owners have now
replaced the developers and are reconsidering how they wish to redevelop
including retaining the frontage which is part of the gateway to Sydenham.
Forest Hill Pools is a unique Victorian twin
pool complex which is in desperate need of renewal. Consultations led to a
decision to £4m refurbishment. However, during the intrusive survey
problems were found which the Council believe make refurbishment impractical
and intend to demolish and rebuild. Local conservationists are pressing for the
retention of the redbrick facade. More comment

Gentrification of Sydenham in the guise of new
coffee shops has been both welcomed and, particularly in the case of Blue
Mountain, some concern that Sydenham may become another 'East Dulwich'. See the
